History

Nothing is known about Ben’s earliest years. When he was ten years old, his father gave him a black lab that Ben named Rascal. He really loved that dog. When he was eighteen, a car ran over Rascal and he died, causing Ben to cry for a week.

In 1969, Ben was in Vietnam right after the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution. His Marine division was attacked, and Ben was wounded and knocked out. He came to briefly and saw a black lab, the very image of Rascal. Trying to reach the dog, he passed out from the pain of his injuries. When he was found by his unit two hours later, there was no sign of the dog.

Ben retired as a Marine colonel. He took a career as a CEO of a major corporation, but is retired from that as well. Ben now looks onto just plain retirement and wonders what in the hell he is going to do.

When Diane Hunt-Chattan met Ben Monroe, she was just about dead broke with two children to feed, Diane said yes to the marriage proposal. The two were married in 1977. They had a daughter, Cynthia, in 1978. Diane has always respected and admired Ben. It’s not known what Ben’s side of the story is.

Ben and his two step-daughters never really managed to get along harmoniously. In 1991, at the age of fifteen, Corrine ran away. In 1996, Chelsea left to try and make it as an artist in New York. Ben was particularly angry about this departure for some reason.

When Chelsea returned home for Cynthia’s wedding, the grilling she received from him actually triggered her first full transformation into her Pureblood-Morph, black leopard form.

Ben witnessed the spell-casting that healed Cynthia from the working Corrine had set on her. He seems to have accepted that Ruth and Chelsea are witches, but he complains about it at times.

Personality

Ben is conservative to a fault, but he is fair and honest to all. He commands respect. Even Chelsea respects him, though she wouldn’t admit it. Ben and Chelsea, his step-daughter, get along about as well as God and the devil. They do not agree on any subject, but they are mellowing out a bit toward each other.

His close friends call him Big Ben, showing he does have a humorous side, a small one perhaps, but there.
