As with Jubal, nothing is known about Paul’s early years. It appears that Haven, NC, is his hometown. As assistant editor at the local newspaper, the Haven Sun-Herald, there seemes to be no reason to move somewhere.
Paul married Chelsea’s half-sister Cynthia Monroe, whom he had known since childhood, in 1999. Since that time, Paul view of what is or is not possible has been constantly stretched. He and Ben encountered a dog that was identical to a dog Ben had owned, which appeared to be a ghost. When Melpomene tested Chelsea by casting a spell on Cynthia, Paul found out that Chelsea was a real witch. Furthermore, she managed to break the spell and heal her half-sister. The next step was revealing that she was a were-cat. He has seen Chelsea tranform and it rocked the foundations of his faith.
After Chelsea was tortured by Eleanor, the relationship between Paul and Cynthia was strained because she couldn’t really talk about it with him; it was so far out of his frame of reference he couldn’t relate. Even after Paul got the story from Diane, he found it difficult to believe. This was in spite of everything he had seen before, including Chelsea healing Cynthia and changing form. Diane called him on the inconsistency, but he doesn’t know if he believes, leaving the Paul and Cynthia still at odds.
Jubal’s brother is one of the new Republicans. He likes to make money and speak freely in public too. He’s always there with an answer, or a helping hand, even if you don’t need it. Knowledgeable in almost everything Paul hardly lets an opportunity go by to let people know it. Yes, he would be a know-it-all if he wasn’t so likable.
The three most important things to Paul are his wife Cynthia, his brother Jubal, and golf.
Paul is a devout Christian (Methodist). He is still trying to reconcile his faith with Chelsea’s abilities (both as a witch and as a morph), and with the verified existence of magick.
