McRae, Cynthia Marie Angeline Thalia

History

After the death of her first husband, Diane Chattan was in dire straights trying to raise two daughters. She accepted Ben Monroe’s proposal though she did not yet love him. They were married in 1977. The following year, Cynthia was born. For several years, she, her parents, and her half-sisters lived a reasonably contented life at their home in Haven, NC.

In 1986, the three sisters went on their first unescorted Hallowe’en outing. This resulted in Cynthia’s first exposure to real witches, but she was not particularly interested. (Chelsea and Corrine were.)

In 1999, Cynthia and Paul McRae, her long-time sweetheart, were married. Chelsea returned from New York City for the occasion, and while back in Haven manifested as a morph, a were-leopard. Cynthia has had a much easier time dealing with her knowledge of the supernatural than her husband.

In 2000, Cynthia’s half-sister Corrine, now called Melpomene, returned to Haven as well. Her purpose was more malevolent than Chelsea’s return. Melpomene, determined to test Chelsea’s capabilities as a witch, cast a spell on Cynthia, causing her to starting pining away. Chelsea succeeded in healing her half-sister, incidentally revealing her magick to Ben and Paul.

For Valentines Day, 2001, Paul was given an assignment to visit a “love nest” in the mountains nears Asheville. As he and Cynthia packed to leave, Cynthia used the look on Paul to convince him to allow Jubal and Chelsea to come as well. During their time in Asheville, Chelsea had a leopard episode. What they didn’t know was that a male black leopard, escaped from a local property, was also wandering around. Cynthia spent several minutes with that leopard thinking it was Chelsea. When she found out it wasn’t, she was rather shocked. Paul also got his first chance to see Chelsea transform at this time, shaking him rather badly.

After Chelsea was tortured by Eleanor in 2001, Cynthia found out about it, but found that she couldn’t discuss it with Paul because of his unbelieving attitude. This has placed a strain on their relationship.

Personality

Cynthia is an atypical dumb blonde. She sometimes acts as if she doesn’t have a brain in her head, but at other times she cuts to the heart of the matter. She does have a heart as big as the whole outdoors. Even though she knows the truth about Chelsea and the rest, she continues to love them all, hoping that it will be enough.
