Duncan’s direct connection to magick has been skewed through the element of chaos, perhaps the most dangerous and unpredictable of the elements. He has been entrusted to his uncle, Jacob Livingston, to train and educate, possible somewhat against his will. Duncan could be a very powerful wizard, but he needs lots of training. And chaos magick is too unpredictable to be left untrained.
One of his first actions on joining his uncle was to play with Jubal’s soul jar. It broke, releasing Jubal’s soul and forcing Jacob and Ruth to do the Resurrection spell early to bring Jubal back.
Recently, he has watched over the Livingston Library on occasion while Jacob is out trading. This may indicate that he is starting to show some responsibility.
As a chaos wizard, Duncan’s powers are not very stable. (Chaos is actually just another elemental property, the same as water, earth, fire, or air.) However, by its very nature, chaos magick is unstable and unpredictable. A spell may work or it may not. It could also work in the opposite way it was intended.
To deal with these tendencies, all care must be taken to make sure that a spell is done correctly. The spell or intended magick must be performed to the absolute letter, permitting no variables. Even then this does not mean that Duncan’s magick will work with one-hundred percent reliability.
Duncan is a typical teenage boy who has more interest in playing Nintendo and skate boarding than actually studying magick.
Only time will tell if Duncan has the will and discipline to control his powers...and prevent him from becoming a danger to those around him.
