Ghosts are spirits of once living people. Most ghosts in the CotC universe are spirits that have unfinished business or are bound to one place by a horrible tragedy. However, we have yet to see any such ghost in CotC. Still other ghosts come when closer contact is needed or to warn of upcoming events. Lucy, Chelsea’s former roommate, was able to have closer contact with Chelsea since Chelsea is a witch. However, some ghosts, like Chelsea’s father, are more like emissaries for the Netherworld or guardian angels, so to speak. There is one constant fact with ghosts: if they appear in the human world it is for a reason. Whether that reason is for the benefit of the people or the ghost, they always have a reason for being here.
The instances of CotC ghosts are limited. Ben Monroe’s dog was not a human, but apparently possessed sufficient spirit or maybe loyalty to manifest as a ghost. That apparition was seem by Ben, Jubal, and Paul. However, Chelsea has seen the ghost of her father on more than one occasion. She has also seen the ghost of her friend and former room-mate Lucy who came to say good-bye.
