Demons

Demons come in two forms, humanoid and non-humanoid.

Non-Humanoid Demons

The non-humanoid demons are usually gigantic and live outside of the Earth dimension. Most are unconcerned with the insignificant lives of humans and humanoids, but once in a while one will creep into our plane. An example is Fin-Groot-Taboo, encountered in “CFRH meets CotC”.

Demons such as the Old Ones which transformed Lillith and Kern into vampiric beings have been in existence since the creation of the CotC universe and quite possibly before. There is a theory that they are demigods which once ruled a previous universe. They are also called Elder Demons. They are responsible for Lillith and Kern and probably various other ghoulies on earth.

Humanoid Demons

Humanoid demons look pretty much like any other humans, except that they have great powers due to their enormous direct connection to magick. Both Lillith and Kern are good examples of humanoid demons.

All humanoid demons are former living humans who have been changed. Humans become humanoid demons either by contact with one of the Elder Demons or through a curse from an Old One by way of a wizard, witch, or other magick user.

Other Notes

Demons can be destroyed only outside of their home realm. There are, however, no wizards known who are powerful enough to destroy any demon. However, there are certain weapons (magickal artefacts), forged by other demons that exist in the CotC realm that can kill them. This actually matters very little as most demons do not care about humans at all. As far as they are concerned, we may as well be dust mites. Fortunately, demons can be driven out of the CotC realm quite easily, unless they are on a mission.

Some practitioners can summon demons, but that practice has fallen out of favour in modern times. There are at least 5000 volumes’ worth of arcana about demons, which Elemental-Wizard Jacob Livingston sums up by saying, “They’re not very nice.”

Both Zombies and Underlings are generally found in association with demons. Demons feed best on positive emotions, and once satiated can be sent back to their original place.

Generally speaking, it’s probably a good idea to avoid demons if one can.
