I typically take a lot of little breaks when crafting a page, but with this one, I went pretty much straight through. It still seemed like it took forever to get done. :/ The results don’t look half bad, though.
Ted; having only read a few months of CotC so far, I may be off in my guess at this, but I think ‘Skyclad’ refers to more than just being physically out of one’s clothing (presumably in this case, because of shapeshifting); rather, it indicates a variety of dress rather than lack of clothing entirely. This came to mind when I looked at the lower left-hand panel; I had first thought that Jamie was trying to use the shadows of blowing leaves to cover up Chelsea’s modesty, but after looking more carefully, the ‘leaf shadows’ looked to me more like spreading pools of shadow or liquid. Then in the next and last panel, she was fully clothed. I suspect this is the same sort of concept used in Werewolf: The Apocalypse (dedicated clothing that doesn’t get shredded when you change forms) when I played it so many years ago, but rather along the lines of a ‘magesuit’; clothing that can be turned ‘on’ or ‘off’. I believe, in conclusion, that ‘Skyclad’ indicates that you’re wearing clothing that is turned ‘off’. I could easily be wrong (Jamie, feel free to correct me), but I think, Ted, that or a variation on it may be the info you’re wanting.
You’re close, except that those are not shadows. It’s a glamor in process, wrapping around her. I should probably go back and add some sparkles to indicate magick is at play. I’ve never played Werewolf: The Apocalypse, so I’m not sure if it is close or not. In this comic, from the Council of Three story, you can see in the 8th panel that Chels is wearing a glamor. It’s pretty much the same thing that is going on in the above comic. She is still “technically” skyclad, but the magick is now protecting her modesty.
I finally have finished reading the older comics. Wow! It started a little slow, but the characters grew on me. And the Dracula storyline… EPIC! Im dying to know how it ends… Just one question: Do you have an Endgame planned? Or do you write as you go along? How is your creative process conserning the storyline?
Yes, I have an endgame planned, but I do tend to write a little loose. Basically, I have a plan that I follow, but as following a map, I sometimes veer off the road and explore, for good of for ill, other parts aspects of the characters or plot. Currently, I am looking for the Drac story to end in March. We’ll see. Thanks!
Jamie; danke for getting back to us so quickly. Yeah, I wasn’t sure how many folks would necessarily have heard of Werewolf: the Apocalypse at this point; the whole game universe got ‘reset’ about 7 years ago, and what replaced it (there were five shared-universe RPGs in the ‘old’ system and five in the ‘new’ one) was after my time in RPGing. Anyway, the ‘glamour’ you mentioned pretty much confirmed what I’d thought; the ‘wrapping shadows’ was it activating. The biggest diff for ‘dedicated clothing’ in Werewolf (I don’t know if there was a simulacrum in the ‘new’ system for that) is that it adapts to each form, though it doesn’t include an off switch, per se (it’s always either ‘worn’ or ‘not worn’, and doesn’t do much of anything that any other clothing does when it’s ‘not worn’), and doesn’t AFAIK have multiple ‘settings’ in any given bodyform. The term ‘spirit togs’ or ‘spirit clothing’ might be a better way to put it if I’m putting too much W:tA into my explanation.
In any case, I really am impressed with how the art in your comic has evolved since its inception. I’ve read about twenty pages right at the beginning so far (I think I trailed off around when Chelsea was noshing on a ‘seared steer’ right before remembering she was a vegan) and picked up the ‘current’ comic around November of last year. Do you use a tablet for your colourtoning? I’ve been learning how to use mine with the assistance of a local amiga who’s been using WACOMs since she had a Apple II. (I’m a PC cub, but no worries.)
I have a Wacom Intuos 4 w/ a PC. In fact, I’ve always used a pen tablet to color. I think my first was the ArtPen 2.
I’ve played some D&D in my time, but never did any LARPing. Werewolf:ta and Vampire:tm are LARPS, right? Never got the chance. Most of my vampire and werewolf influences either came from folklore or a Hammer film.
I always admire how Chelsea “gathers” her clothing upon her like that. I like how you show that, so much more “natural” than just a *poof she’s dressed*…
Jamie; mine is an Intuos like yours, with the only difference probably being that mine is a later generation. (We got it in 2005 with my current computer system, if that’s any help figuring it out.) The fact remains that you’ve put it to quite good use so far; I’m still getting the hang of it on a basic level. Mind, I really am enjoying the product of your efforts!
About Werewolf and Vampire; yeah, there were LARP versions of all or most of the World of Darkness games (I believe that took place with the ‘new’ WoD games, but again, I stopped playing long before then) and for about a year at a club downtown I played in a Vampire live-action game. It really wasn’t my thing; there’s a physical and cosmetic aspect of the WoD LARPs that I could never quite rise up to. Most of the Werewolf: the Apocalpyse I’ve played is the tabletop with dice original vanilla version, like D&D or Palladium.
I have to agree with you, Kerry; the action of the glamour taking effect and ‘clothing’ Chelsea is seamless and functions for her almost instinctively, rather than a deus ex machina ‘shazam’ of her suddenly being clothed.
It’s nice to see Chelsea using her head.
Yes it is. And thank you for all your comments. I do appreciate it very much.
I appreciate the work you do for us.
Continuity question – not that I’m a perv or anything, but where did her clothes suddenly come from?

I really admire the way you present your article. Excellent blog post. Highly informative. Thank you.
I like this so so. I have searched in Google for this information and only your site has helped me to obtain the results.
