If I remember right, Vlad the Impaler served the Christian church (I think specifically he was a Ctholic) before the insanity. So it could well be the symbols of the church like the cross, the wafers, holy water, etc.
You’re right, FreakUnique. Vlad actually used to be a soldier for the Christian Church. So it would make sense that the symbols of the church would cause him pain. On the other hand, didn’t he tell Van Helsing something like, “Are you trying to scare me with the cross I once served?” and then break his wrist in the book? I could be wrong…
The problem is that the legends about Vampires conflict so much. In some legends they burn in sunlight, in others they can walk in the day but they’re sorta like humans at night. That’s one example of the conflict of sources. Makes for interesting reading.
It could be anything but the cross idea fits in with some Vampire legends and what was said by the Demon. Other less known legends are that they can’t resist counting grains of, I think, malt when they pass a mound of it.
The whole utter crap about Vampires sparkling is one of the reasons I refuse to read the Twilight books or watch the movies. They’re probably good books but the rabid fans and the sparkly Vampires have put me off completely. The sparkly Vampire thing sounds like some cutesy ego trip for the writer.
I remember hearing, a couple of years ago, an interview on the radio. An author was complaining that, although his books sold at a profit, his publisher had dropped him because they wanted to concentrate on books that would get into best seller lists. If you look at the publishing industry that way, and the demographics of the readers of the books you are talking about, then…
Got some great information here. I think that if more people thought about it that way, theyd have a better time understanding the issue.
I am glad to found such useful post. I really increased my knowledge after read your post which will be beneficial for me.
I take it the first victim of the demon was Lilith(sp?)?
What is it that he loves that he would fear? Is it the sun? The church?…

But we can all agree on one thing: Vampires don’t sparkle! =^-^=
Unless they are transforming or doing Portal spells.
