Man, I went from the first comic to this come in three days.
Great little series.
I’m starting to feel sorry for Paul!
Well, consider what all the poor fellow is trying to reconcile: his faith, what he’s seen, and what he’s been informed about what he’s seen. You have to admit it’s a bit much. Add to that the general intolerance displayed by historical Catholicism, it’s amazing his head hasn’t exploded. (Am I remembering which branch he is correctly?) Poor Paul, you almost feel sorry for him after all this.
I’m not sure if it was ever said which branch of Christianity Paul calls his own. That may be intentional, as it allows most folks to identify him with good (if slightly uptight) members of their own denomination.
given his southern upbringing and the pastor he went to see I was going to guess Baptist, but that is based on incomplete knowledge of things. I have always felt he was not catholic, partially due to the lack of Catholic icons in his home. (note that this is based on the one Catholic person whose home I was familiar with. She had angels everywhere.)
Not all Catholics have icons everywhere, but had he been Catholic he’d have talked to a priest rather than a pastor. I don’t really know enough about Baptists to say that is his religion, but I’m pretty sure he is not Catholic.
